History: The town was founded in 1882 by a group of settlers from Memphis, Tennessee and named after their hometown.
Population: As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,890 people living in an area of 0.9 square miles (2 km2).
Economy: The economy is largely based on agriculture and ranching with some light industry and retail businesses located in town as well as nearby cities such as Lubbock and Wichita Falls.
Attractions: Popular attractions include the historic downtown district with its many antique stores, restaurants, cafes and art galleries; Lake McClellan which offers fishing opportunities; and nearby Caprock Canyons State Park which features hiking trails, camping sites and scenic views of the canyonlands region.
